There's a Seat at the Table for You
Meeting Jesus at the Table During Lent
A Minister’s Message from Rev. Dr. Chris Shorow, Senior Minister 405.341.3544
Lent is a 40-day period before Easter where we take time to reflect, grow, and prepare our hearts for the transformative hope that Easter represents. This Lent, First Christian Church Edmond is exploring what happens when we gather around the table with Jesus. Not just any table – tables where questions are welcome, where doubt meets faith, and where everyone belongs. From casual dinners with unexpected guests to profound moments of sharing bread and wine, Jesus showed us that the table is where real life happens.
Our series begins around the table with our Ash Wednesday service of bread and ashes – Wednesday, March 5 at 6:30PM. Then each Sunday of Lent (March 9 through April 13) we'll pull up a chair to a different table where Jesus ate, taught, and transformed lives:
Where a small lunch became enough to feed thousands, showing us how abundance grows in community
Where social barriers broke down as Jesus shared meals with those society pushed aside
Where deep conversations unfolded over simple bread and wine
Where disciples discovered that following Jesus meant creating space for everyone
Our journey culminates on Easter Sunday, April 20 as we explore what it means to build a bigger table in today's world – one that's messy, authentic, and full of hope. Because the resurrection story isn't just about what happened then; it's about how we live now. It's about creating spiritual community that reflects the radical welcome Jesus showed us.
Come discover how these ancient stories of gathering with Jesus speak directly to our modern hopes for connection, purpose, and a love so big that it can overcome all that divides us. Because we believe that when we make room at the table, everyone can experience God's love and acceptance. And that's exactly the kind of community we're building together.
